What the studies say
In the laboratory, a fibre hydrogel made with sodium carboxymethylcellulose (also found in this product's composite fibre) absorbed many times its own weight in water after soaking. It also stayed longer in a device that simulates the human stomach than a plain solution of its ingredients.
Source: a laboratory study of a hydrogel made from highland barley beta-glucan and sodium carboxymethylcellulose, a different formulation from this product. In the laboratory, 1g of the dry material absorbed about 24g of water in 1 minute and about 176g in 1 hour. Read the study (International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2024)
The above refers to a laboratory study of a hydrogel made from highland barley beta-glucan and sodium carboxymethylcellulose. Its formulation and dosage differ from the composite fibre in this product, and the results are not from trials of this product.
