Two antioxidants and an anti-glycation ingredient
Natural astaxanthinA natural carotenoid from Haematococcus pluvialis, a type of microalgae. Each softgel has 80mg of Haematococcus pluvialis extract, providing 8mg of astaxanthin.
Alpha-lipoic acidFound naturally in the body's cells. In this formula, it is the one that works against glycation.
Vitamin EFound naturally in the skin, and one of the skin's most important natural antioxidants against oxidative stress.Fine lines, sweets and absorption: what the research says

Fine lines and elasticity
Collagen and elastin fibres keep skin firm and elastic. UV rays in sunlight put the skin under oxidative stress and create free radicals, which break down these fibres, so skin gradually loses elasticity and fine lines appear.
What the studies say
Astaxanthin is a strong natural antioxidant. In a placebo-controlled study of 49 middle-aged women, the group taking 4mg of astaxanthin a day showed clear improvements in fine lines and elasticity, as assessed by dermatologists.

Sweet foods
Sugary drinks, desserts, high-carbohydrate foods, and greasy meals can easily lead to glycation: sugar binds with proteins in the body to form brownish-yellow, stable advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), similar to meat browning in a pan.
What the studies say
Alpha-lipoic acid is found naturally in the body's cells. In two test-tube studies, adding alpha-lipoic acid to proteins and sugars clearly reduced the AGEs formed. (Test-tube studies, not human trials.)

Can your body absorb the astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin dissolves in oil, not water. Once swallowed, it has to be absorbed through the gut before it reaches the bloodstream.
